Monday Musings

Today was a most unusual bank holiday....we had sun!

Since when has that happened lately!

We had a nice drifty start to the day, just me and Chips finishing our latest mystery book.

And blow me down,Chips got the villain right! And seriously I thought I had it in the bag! I was wrong! And the look on Chips face was magic....I guess....a sort of 'I was right, you were wrong kind of look. Next time Chips I will be right!I must up my game!

We are on a new mystery book now, only thirteen more to read!

The morning drifted on,washing was done, breakfast was scoffed and the day rolled along nicely.

Chips played outside on his scooter and then managed to get his football totally entangled in my white washing!

We went out to Cresswell Crags for the afternoon and had a lovely stroll around the lake.

After all the walking, running and clambering up and down the hills we went to McDonald's and then ended the day by relaxing at home.

We started a new mystery book at bedtime and apart from me frantically searching for the missing apron tonight,it has been quite a relaxed day.

Let's hope the sun stays with us for the foreseeable future,a bit of sun seems to perk us all up.
Five Days

So I have had five days off work, the way I feel I could do with fifty five days off or 155 days off or even more,I'm sure you get the picture,I need a rest.

Things are changing all around me and I'm not settled,I'm tired out and doing normal everyday stuff takes a massive amount of effort.

As written here I'm balancing all this with eating copious amount of biscuits and going to bed early, unfortunately I'm up early too so I'm still tired out and yet another day rolls by in the same fashion.

But these five days have not been all bad,far from it.The lull has given us chance to rest up and in this world of hectic busyness this might not be such a bad thing.

Chips has had a great time watching motogp and judging by the facts he can repeat to me he has taken a lot in and really enjoyed himself.

Sharky has been out all over with his mates and he is still persisting with that board, grrrr!
He informs me that it's been a month since he has been skateboarding. He has got bruises everywhere and cuts, grazes and scars too.I ask myself why do boys like war wounds so much?!?
Hmmm, when all is said and done though there are a lot worse things a teen could be doing.

Tiger has been zipping around in his car,he took Chips to Morrison's today and Chips was delighted to go with him, especially when he came back with a diarylea lunchable courtesy of his big brother.

The weather has been good,no rain on a bank holiday! That's unheard of! This has meant the washing line has been full every day, nice clean clothes,if only they would put themselves away I'd be on a winner!

Perhaps resting up is just what we all need.

Magic Moment ~ Sraight As A Pencil
On Thursday I DID have a magic moment!

And I was so very excited about it!

Afterwards the day deteriorated into the usual Thursday mad scramble of shopping, swimming and madness but for one hour in
the morning the sun shone and all was well in my little world of motherhood.

It was voting day and when you work in a school you sometimes get the day off on voting days!

What a treat, let out on a normal run of the mill working day,for anyone who works in a school this is magic.

Yep I know we get good,no brilliant holidays but to have a day off midweek is fantastic because it meant I could walk my little one to school!

Iam very lucky and work right next door to my sons school so normally I take him to work with me and then his best friends mum pops in and watches him walk over to the junior school, this works fine but what a treat to have mummy in the school yard in the morning.

The day dawned and it was indeed a beautiful morning,Chips eagerly got dressed and was chomping at the bit, very ready to take Mummy down to the school playground and show her the ropes.

We set of for school

and these were the only two photos I got,as I thought it wasn't a good idea to take photos on the school playground, for those memories I'm relying on my memory to paint a picture with my words on this blog!

Me and my shadow
On arrival at school I was struck by the noise and colours and movement on the playground.

Children were everywhere!

We walked through the biggies, the year sixes and fives and they did seem so much older than Chips.
They were grouped by the play equipment and a couple of them were playing a ball game.
Chips gripped my hand tightly as we passed them and I could feel his grip lessen as we approached the year four section of the playground.

This part of the playground is quite pretty,as it has trees with benches around the tree trunks where the children put their school bags, costs, etc before diving off to meet their friends.

There were groups of children scattered all over.

Some on the trim trail, some girls chattering away to a teacher, some came to talk to me and Chips spotted his two friends on the field and ran over to join them.

My friend wandered over to see me and we stood having a natter and watching the children play until the bell went.

At the sound of the bell it was action stations for the children as pretty much immediately they flew to their class lines and stood waiting for their teachers - oh what powers these teachers have and the children were so aware of what they should be doing and how they should be doing it - quietly and orderly!

Chips teacher came out and spoke to her class and the way she did it made me smile,so calmly, without a batting a eyebrow and boy did those children listen and respond! You could see immediately that the teacher had got that class exactly where she wanted them, with the minimum of movement she greeted them for the day

" Pencil Straight Clever Crocs

"You are doing a Elvis,Hollie, collar down.

"I can see bunching at the back,Chips move in"

She then gave instructions on how the first part of the morning would flow ~ silent reading, morning work, science, booster classes and then the children filed into the classroom in a orderly line and began their day.

I loved watching, she made me smile so much,so much control but all done with care and a underlying sense of humour too,I was left with no doubt that my child was in safe hands for the day.

And with those thoughts in my head I wandered back up the school drive and proceeded to stand putting the world to rights outside my friends house for the next 50mins,not often I get the chance to do that!
Perhaps a good thing!

It was nearly ten am when I arrived home and I filled the kettle up,switched the radio on,put a load of washing on and chomped a toasty breakfast.

Bliss! That morning start was a magic moment!

Six Word Saturday

How Many Biscuits Can One Eat?

Quite a lot it seems!

I eat them if I'm happy,I eat them if I'm sad.

And at the moment the biscuits are the only thing keeping me going......emotionally that is.

These biscuits seem to have magical powers that make me able to cope when all seems wrong.

Better go shopping.

I'm running out.

Sec's

During the half term hols we went to the shoe shop.

Now the shoe shop and I don't have that good a relationship.

Mainly due to the fact that the assistants have, perhaps without knowing, done my head in with throwaway comments such as

"Oh we don't do shoes that will fit your child"

I mean what's that about!!!!!He's not a giant so why don't you make shoes for him?!?Why?!?!

And the last one was....you'll like this,it's a classic....

"Oh if these don't fit him,we haven't got anything suitable, you will have to paint his feet black"

All said with a smile on their faces.

Yeh rightio I'm really going to paint my child's feet black coz that would so work, wouldn't it.

It makes me so cross, all I want to do is buy my child a pair of shoes for goodness sake.Im prepared to pay over the odds,I just need a pair of shoes, grrr!

As you can see,it totally winds me up,to say the least.

And breathe.....

So we enter the shoe shop and the assistant measures Chips and it all seems promising and I'm beginning to feel that today we may be onto a winner.

And then the assistant says "I'll go and get some size 2's,I'll just be two secs"

And Chips turns to me wih a grin as wide as the Mersey and says,

"Mummy,she said sex"

"No sweetheart" I replied "She said secs"

"Yes sex" said Chips and he started twirling round the shoe shop chairs in excited glee.

"No" I said

And I slowly and dramatically said the word

"Secs, Chips, s-e-c-s"

It was at this point I realised three things, one my voice had got quite loud as I over emphasized the letters of the word, two the shop had grown quiet and three that no matter how hard you try to say secs it still sounds like sex.

Try it and see what I mean! You will grin.

Chips was delighted,he burst into more giggles and chanted "Mummy said sex,Mummy said sex!"

And then just to make matters worse I looked up and a lady opposite said "Hello" and it was one of the nursery mums from where I work....

I blagged and said in my best cheery voice "Hello" whilst inside I was thinking "How bad is this going to get!"

We didn't even get the shoes on that trip!

But we did get a laugh and a memory to keep!

Secs....perhaps a word to avoid with junior school kids...let my experience be a warning to all!

Tomorrow
Tomorrow I'm taking my little boy to school....right to school.

Normally I take him to work with me,I work right next to the school and he tootles across to the junior school with his friends mum quite happily.

But tomorrow is different

I have a day off work and so I can take him right into his playground and we are both immensely excited.

We have planned to be in good time so that we can chatter all the way down and he can play on the playground and I can watch him...big smiles from me!

I'm going to take some photos, probably not allowed to take photos but I'm gonna try!

I'm so excited! And so is he!
