Playing in the forest is fun
Down in the woods

Today there were lots of different things in the forest.

First we glimpsed this

And then this

and when we saw these characters we knew something special was happening!

At first Chipmunk was very wary and wouldn't go near any of the camps but after a bit of gentle persuasion he really got into it and although he stuck like glue to my side he wanted to see more.

I think our favourite one was this one

The lady showed us how to keep the fire going by blowing onto it and there was real meat cooking!
Smoke was billowing everywhere but I thought it was great to see real fire and smell the smoke.
Chipmunk has never had that experience before and to actually smell something is so different to just seeing it in television.

Down by Robin Hoods tree there were archers

Chipmunk loved these guys! There were two sides ~ good guys and then the baddies boo who worked for the sheriff of Nottingham.

When the good guys won the archery contest the baddies had a scuffle with them

Luckily a woman shock horror came and sorted the ruffians out!
We then saw some soldiers

but at this point Chipmunk was more interested in two small puppy dogs stood next to us!

The man in the black is the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham,Chipmunk does not like him at all!Boo!Hiss!

After all this fun we carried on walking through the forest.

We took a different route and went off the beaten track,Chipmunk was the leader

We passed under leafy canopies

Found lots of wild flowers

And Chipmunk did lead us out into safety! We didn't get lost this time!

Chipmunk had a climb on the park

and a game of bat and ball. Then it was home again to get warm as it was chillybo!

I'm not tired!I'm really not tired!

Today we were invited to a Jubilee party and what a fab time we had!

The sun was out, unlike yesterday's rainy old weather, infact it was so strong I worried at one point about Chipmunk getting sunburnt!

The party organisers made us so welcome, there was a barbecue and lots and lots of yummy cakes.

Here's a few of the cakes and my cup of tea!The cakes did look more appealing before they had been got at by the hungry hordes, but you can get the picture!

The house had been trimmed up with bunting, which flapped merrily in the wind.

There were quite a few families there and lots of children and this was where the fun began.

Chipmunk had took his scooter and so had many of the other kids and because all the grown ups where sitting on the front garden the children were allowed to play on the street!

What a treat to play in a gang of children on a street!

This is something I took for granted as a child and I spent most of my childhood playing unsupervised out on the street with my group of friends.

But these days that does not happen so much and the children were delighted to get such a opportunity and boy did they make the most of it!

They scootered up and down that street for hours, made games up,had races and had crashes!

The older children looked out for the young ones and it was so great to watch them,I had the time of my life watching them!

They even played Kerby! And it was the way they organised themselves without any adults butting in.Great stuff!

playing Kerby in the road!Look at the discarded scooter waiting for action!

Whilst the children were playing happily the adults had organised a group to sing! There were two people on guitars, one person on drums and my friend singing.

It made the party really special. There were people jiving on the drive and lots of clapping and foot tapping!

The thing I loved as well was the mix of age ranges there, from grandparents down to young children and everybody happy and getting on together.

As the night drew to a close Chipmunk kept saying to me

"I'm not tired!I'm not tired"

And all the grown ups smiled at each other because we all knew what that meant....

one very tired but absolutely happy little boy!

Splashy Smiles

Although the weather is absolutely terrible and it's our week off,grrr,there are still things to smile about;

Sharky's comments about the queen this week have been making me chuckle

"What would happen if the Queens hat blew off?Would they execute the wind?"

''Why isn't the Queen wearing a life jacket on a boat?Doesn't she need one because she's the Queen?''

"Bet that's something to cross off the Queens to do list... watched 1000 boats today ~ tick"

The jubilee has brought about many comments about royalty and whenever Chipmunk sees the Queen he yells out
"Look it's Queen Elizabeth"
Never just the Queen but Queen Elizabeth!

*****************

Chipmunks made me smile by calling people from Spain Spainians he says this on a regular basis whilst watching MotoGp.

He said to me this morning

"I know someone whose a Catarian"

I answered with a

"What!?!''

He replied

"That means he lives in Qatar."

I had just woke up and was making my first cuppa of the day but I had to smile!Obviously I didn't let Chipmunk see me smile as he had a very stern look on his face!

*************************

My little pink iPod is making me smile, nice to have music while I work

*****************

Having a week off work is making me smile big style,I really appreciate it.

******************

Blowing dandelions after school with Chipmunk made me smile. It was so pretty down at the comp that night and judging by the weather we have got now I'm glad we made the most of those nice evenings

Little pretty streams make me smile and the thought of stickleback fishing is very exciting!

**********************

Last night Chipmunk was flicking through his F1 book and said to me;

"I used to think this said Mercedes Beans"

He meant Mercedes Benz!

That made us both smile.

*********************

These little dangling patriotic feet made me smile too!

**********************

Scooter boy makes me happy
Look at him scooting away, fast and balanced, yay!

Now I have a whole week with the boys so I'm bound to catch loads more smiles!

Down At The Lake

Today Chipmunk went fishing with his friend J.
It was his first time fishing and he was very excited.
I'm not sure what he expected,I hope it wasn't a bucketful of fish because we actually caught er nothing!
Actually that's not quite true,we caught rocks, snails, silt, slime and that was waved around by a very unaware little boy who was in charge of a fishing net for the first time!

To say I nearly had my head knocked off more than a couple of times is not a exaggeration!

The boys did have fun tho!

We walked a long way and along the way they saw ducks and geese and they jumped over streams and raced up hills and clambered down steep grassy bankings.

So no fish but a good time had by all.

Red,White and Blue Day

Today was red, white and blue day at school and Chipmunk had a cool selection of tattoos, caps and capes to wear

It was a hetic start to the morning as I struggled to get my head around the picnic lunch box.Anything different to routine and my mind goes to mush! ( I actually forgot to put a spoon in for Chipmunks yoghurt, good job he had plenty of other yummy, scrummy stuff to nibble at.)

Anyway we set off for school with Chipmunks cape blowing in the wind.

It was great to see all the children dressed up and according to Chipmunk the highlight of the day was a extra long dinner time!He seems to think it was until 1.50! Who knows! He could be right!
