Our Cornish Walk To The Beach

While we was in Cornwall we went to the beach everyday. It was just a walk away from our campsite but what a walk it was!Not necessarily a long walk but such a steep one!

I wanted to capture the steepness of it so on the last day I photographed every step of the walk. It's took me until now to blog it but here goes :-)
This is Home On A Hill

From there we crossed a road and went up a little hill

And along a path

This is the view to the right

Then we would cross the road and walk until we reached the zebra crossing

Once there you entered the Haven Complex

There was bikes to one side

And then there was the amusements and little shop

Then we would walk on until you saw this view

Yep,the beautiful beach and sea
We were right on the top of these cliffs and had to walk down, down, down to that beach

We would walk down here

Passing this view on the way

Then you reach the steps

And they are tricky little steps

Once down these you see this slope

And down you go

This is the view looking back up that slope

And there's more slopes to contend with

When you get near the bottom this is the view

Getting closer to the beach

The view looking back

So close to the beach now

The beach shop that sells extortionate priced beach goods and expensive pasties ( but they tasted yum,all warm and mixed with sand, mmm )

The last slope and the rocks where Chipmunk used to take his shoes off

And then this

Beaches like this are why I love Cornwall

Well worth the walk :-)

And such a normal sight on a Cornwall beach

And this too

And that is our walk to the beach.

Special Friends

Its nice and peaceful here ~ time to write a blog post!

I have had so much to write about during the summer holidays but that's made it harder to write because everyday has been full of good things to write about and because I'am so busy doing all the *good things* I can't seem to find time to put them down in writing!

And the brilliant thing that keeps coming into my mind is that we have only had two weeks off and we have four weeks left ~ woohoo!

We have fitted tons into those two weeks and I'm so thrilled about that :-)

Today I wanted to write about meeting our holiday friends,Jane,Allan and Joe.

We met these friends in Cornwall many years ago, when all the boys were much younger.
I think Tiger was 7yrs old and Sharky was just 3yrs old ( soon to be 4 as he is our summer birthday boy )

Tiger will always say he was the one to introduce me to Jane and the gang and I guess that he was.
He made friends with Jack who must have been about 6yrs old and his brother Joe who was 8yrs old I think.

They met playing outside the caravans on a big patch of grass we called *the green*
It was a really safe place for the children to run, play ball games and dash about on scooters and bikes and most evenings a group of children would go out to play and Tiger,Sharky,Joe and Jack became life long friends even though they live miles away in Bedfordshire and I became friends Jane who is one of my best friends ever :-)

Since that meeting we have shared many of life's ups and downs together and even though the miles separate us we keep in touch and now modern technology is so advanced we can text,Facebook and email, which we do on a daily basis.

Time passes though and this little group of boys are growing up rapidly.

Gone are the days of the scooter races,Jack now drives a car!

Two of them have part-time jobs
and two of them go to college!

Time does fly but we are still friends and on our holiday this year we got a chance to meet up and be on a Cornish beach together again.

And of course to add to the mix we have now got Chipmunk!
He never knew the old campsite *Trevella* where all our memories were made.
He went there once when he was four months old but that was it.

He knows I have a friend called Jane and he does remember Joe and Jack from when they have visited us.
We send each other birthday presents too and Chipmunk knows in a roundabout way who these special people are.

It turned out that this year both the families would be in Cornwall at the same time for the first time in ages and we wondered if we could arrange a get together.

Well on the Wednesday of our hols we made a plan to meet on Perranporth beach.

I was a bit skeptical to be honest,I just thought that the beach was vast and that we would miss each other or something would go wrong but off we set to the beach,we were heading down the cliff path and they were coming from Perranporth across the main beach and we were hoping to meet in the middle!

The text messages began as we tried to coordinate this meeting and as soon as we started to come down the cliff path Tiger spotted them waiting at the bottom and then I saw them too and started waving,I couldn't believe we had managed it!

As we reached the bottom Joe rushed over and gave me a hug and it was like old times ~ everybody on the beach.

We all went down to the sea and the boys went splashing about while I paddled happily about in the shallow water trying to take photos without getting my phone ruined by water, quite a tricky thing to do!

After a while we went to sit down on the beach and had sausage rolls and Cornish pasties to eat,by this time the wind had got up and I can just remember trying to eat a pasty and talk whilst the wind was blowing my hair in my face constantly!

It was really good to see our friends,I think everybody enjoyed it.Jack wasn't there as he has been working during the summer holidays and he was missed by us,now that he's driving he may pop over to see us hopefully.

Another memory to treasure :-)

Early in the morning

As I'am sat in this caravan I'am reminded of how peaceful it is here.

There are signs of movement down on the road below and I can detect that the traffic is getting more frequent, perhaps people getting up early to make the most of their last day on holiday,it is Friday after all.
Tomorrow this site will be busy with people, some happy and excited ready to start their holidays, full of dreams and anticipation and some people a little wistful and sad that their time at the seaside is over, back to reality, probably with a long journey ahead ahead of them and the knowledge that they won't be seeing the sea for quite some time.

Today though is Friday and we have a whole day ahead of us at Perran Sands ~ that is approximately 16 hours or 960 mins to do things, make memories, make the most of what we have got and I for one want to do that for sure!

And now I have company, little feet pit pattering through to where I'm sitting, breakfast time I guess!

As I go to the sink to rinse my teacup I look up to see this view from my window

What I wouldn't give for a view like that from my kitchen window at home!If only!

Thoughts

I'm first one up today, actually I'm first one up most days. The caravan is really quiet,I can hear little occasional creaking noises coming from the caravan, the fridge switching on and off and purring away, seagulls cawing,a few cars on the road below the caravan and the wind blowing.

The sky is mainly grey with little white bits peeking through

Over in the direction of the sea it looks a bit brighter and although the sky is grey at least the weather is dry and that means we can spend our last day outside,I'm not sure where but it will be at a beach that I'am sure,on holiday beaches are important to us

The bit brighter sky over by the sea and beach.

There are signs of family life everywhere in this caravan ~

Piles of books ~

Piles of clothes

Piles of shoes

Bags

Signs of my boys growing up ~

Headphones

And this makes me smile ~ a Harry Potter book underneath this crisp packet ~ a sign my big boy is reading again :-)

Caps are everywhere.

And iPods too!

Some shoes even hide beneath chairs!

And some jackets are left on the floor.

And it is oh so quiet in here,at the moment!
Even the wind has dropped and I can just see the palm tree outside gently fluttering in the breeze ~ peace for the moment and signs of a family that have made this caravan their home for a week *home on a hill*

Perran Sands

Today was a beach day,the weather was grey and cloudy, yet again, but even so we decided to go and spend some time down at Perran Sands beach.

It's not a easy walk to the beach as it's down a steep cliff walk but it's do-able and much better in my opinion than getting in a car to go to the beach because on the journey back you know you can just collapse in the caravan without sitting in a car all hot, sticky and sandy.

This was the view as we walked down the path to the beach.

When we got onto the beach we looked in the beach shop to see if there were any beach shoes for Chipmunk but there was not any his size so we bought a bucket and two spades instead.

We found a spot quite close to the sea and set up camp, which just consisted of a few towels and our shoes.

The boys went straight to the sea and were soon larking around, splashing each other.

Sharky started to fly his kite,he's waited ages to do that and today was definitely windy enough for him to do it.
It kept coming down onto the beach with a loud splat, thankfully it didn't splat any of us!

Chipmunk got completely buried by Tiger!I think he found it quite itchy and he pushed his way out very quickly!

We had a jammy donut and crisp picnic and then it was back into the sea.

By now the weather had changed and we actually saw a bit of sun peeking through the clouds.

I was able to stretch out on my towel and feel warm instead of chilly,a very pleasant change :-)

Chipmunk was playing in a massive hole that someone had dug,it had water in the bottom and Chipmunk was making me a chocolate ice cream with plenty of fudge and flake pieces scattered on top. He had a great time sloshing the sand and water into his bucket and made me a very wet, soggy, sloppy, sandy ice cream.

Then he decided to go in the sea again.
By this time the waves were quite big and Chipmunk and Sharky had a brilliant time jumping over them.Chipmunk went right under a couple of times,he spluttered but didn't seem to care that much as he went back for more and more

After a really good time in the sea we began the long trudge back up the cliff walk and to the van where we all showered and then relaxed.

Newquay

Had a fab day at Newquay!

We started going round the shops,Tiger and Sharky liked the surfy shops that sold Vans etc,it was really busy and quite crowded and I was quite pleased
when we went to the seafront away from the crowds.

It bought back lots of memories for me because this was the beach that we used to come to when Tiger and Sharky were really young.

I can really remember playing on this beach with the boys and walking under this bridge,it was the very beach that Sharky learnt to walk on when he was just 11 months old,so you can imagine what memories it held for me!

We used to walk up and down this road and I used to push Sharky in the Silver Cross Buggy,it was soo hard going up those hills I can tell you :-)

We used to stay in this hotel overlooking the sea.The dining room had a great view of the sea and we used to watch rowing boats going out each evening to practice racing.

Then we went to the harbour, there used to be a seal there but I didn't see that today.
Chipmunk found a dead fish though that had been washed up at the side of the sea

Poor little fish :-(

It was busy at the harbour

lots of boats coming and going.

The canoes getting ready to go out

We all sat on a rock and this was our view

the sea was swooshing around and it was so nice to hear the waves going in and out,I love the noise the sea makes.

We had a walk along the harbour side and climbed onto a wall overlooking the sea,it was right next to some lobster cages which were quite smelly!

It was a really tough walk back up the road and Chipmunk felt it but did make it up there eventually.

We had some delicious fudge there from the little fudge shop that we used to go too and had a happy time just wandering around.

Sharky found a big flat stone and I have bought it home with me to keep forever.

Sharky bought a new cap and Tiger bought some new shoes and Chipmunk bought a gun and 2 maths books from the Pound Shop.

I really enjoyed it today and I hope the boys did too.Chipmunk went to sleep in under 5minutes tonight so all the walking and fresh air certainly did something to him for sure :-)
