Cars 2

Even before the school holidays began there was one thing Chipmunk wanted to do ~ watch Cars 2.

Well we have done loads of things this holiday but we had not watched Cars 2,not until this morning that is.

I began to get quite worried that the movie would be taken off the cinema before we had seen it and I was put right by Chipmunk who kept saying that if he didn't get to see it he would be *so* upset!
It was the one thing he wanted to do so we just had to do it!

There was only one showing a day at 10.45am so the teens had to get up at a early hour :-) blurry eyed teens!

It was a great film though and I really enjoyed it.
The plot was intense with all the spy undertones but as with Cars the message was that we all need friends and we should respect our friends no matter what.

It was a nice trip out with all the boys and a great way to end the summer holidays.

Killer comment I guess, was when Chipmunk said (just as the movie started) "I can't wait for Cars 3!" Hmm please don't let's be on countdown for that now!

Smurftastic!

Today we went to watch the Smurfs at the cinema.

I had not heard much about this film but could vaguely remember the Smurfs from my younger days.

We absolutely loved the film,it really made Chipmunk laugh and I got right into it,cheering at the loveable Smurfs and booing at the evil Gargamel and his dastardly cat Azrael!

I would recommend this film for anyone with children under 10,it certainly made us laugh.

Oh and if you do watch it,beware, as you soon start talking like a Smurf and things become 'smurftastic' or you say 'I Smurf you' ( meaning I love you ) or as Chipmunk keeps saying 'Smurfxactly' Believe me it's addictive!

Alton Towers

I'm catching up on our summer holiday fun while Sharkys at his sleepover so now it's all about Alton Towers.

We got our trip to Alton Towers paid for by Tesco club card!It was a great way to make what would have been a expensive trip a really cheap day out!

The boys all love Alton Towers and were really looking forward to spending the day there.

The weather was really grim and I honestly began to wonder if we were mad as we stood queuing up in the pouring rain, thankfully that stopped and the weather although grey was not a problem all day.

The first thing Chipmunk went on was The Squirrel Nutty Ride ~ he could remember this from last time

The ride is high up in the trees

You sit in a car and take a slow ride around a woodland track

It was after this ride that Chipmunk progressed to the 'big boy rides!'

First was a spinning teacup pirate ride.We all went in together and that car span and span.It was such good fun, nothing like spinning round at speed with your nearest and dearest,I will remember the looks on everybody's faces for a very long time!Pure magic!

That was in the pirate land.

We then went on the log flume.Somehow I had forgot how wet you get on the water rides and when we got off I was soaked,it took ages for my jeans to dry.
Chipmunk loved it though! And again it was such a good feeling to all be able to go on a family ride together.

We then went on the Runaway Mine Train

This ride is a bit of a roller coaster and very fast, again Chipmunk loved it and we ended up going on it 4 times during the day. A definite fave!

We then walked through The Spooky Forest and saw Chipmunks worst nightmare ~ The Gears Of War Man

Chipmunk christened this character that name years ago and since then it's stuck and yes years later he is still spooked by him!We didn't stay there long!

What I like about Alton Towers is the contrast of things, from this

and this (noise and screams)

to this

and this (peace and tranquility)

What I don't like is how tired Alton Towers makes you feel!I was absolutely whacked out by the end of the day and when I put Chipmunk to bed I just slunk and slithered into bed myself feeling as rough as could be!

It was such a *fun* day out though.I heard Tiger and Sharky laughing loads and loads and it's great to go out as a family and hear laughter, especially from the teens!
A definite winner of a day!

Museum Trip

Our town museum is really quite cool and has won awards for being child friendly.

Chipmunk has been going there for a year now and even went on a school trip there in May.

Today we spent a hour there and I can see Chipmunks knowledge is really growing.

He is getting used to the exhibitions and listening to what I'm telling him and is really happy to do so.

One of the museums characters is Eco Dude,a friendly talking robot made entirely out of things that were thrown away, here he is

One bit of information I learnt today was that our town throws away 40,000 tons of waste each year, enough to fill a football stadium to the top!Eco Dude told me this!

One of the exhibitions that always makes me think is the one that shows you how much electricity certain household items use

It is the kettle that uses the most electricity, what amazes me is that the toaster takes quite a bit of electricity too.

We had a good go on this activity. You had to find a food chain of 4 links,I got it right a couple of times and Chipmunk had a really good try,I can see we will revisit this activity again.

We looked at a old Penny Farthing bike and Chipmunk really smiled as we talked about how difficult it would be to get into the saddle of one and how high up it would be.Because of Chipmunks recent bike riding attempts he really appreciated just how hard it must have been to ride a Penny Farthing and it was great to see him comparing the two bikes

When you look at this photo it does make you think ' just how did they manage to stay on!'

Chipmunk then did a trail, where he had to circle different things from around the museum,he is getting much better at this And then we went to play on the checkout tills ~ he loves this.

We like going to the museum and I can see Chipmunk really beginning to absorb this knowledge in,thanks Eco Dude :-)

Bikes,Walks and Grandparents

Today was lovely!Well the beginning and the end was yukko but the middle was just great!

We went to Sherwood Forest and it was a gorgeous day, blue skies and sun. This worked well in the forest, the trees gave us shade but we could still see blue sky up above

The flags were still up from last weeks Robin Hood Festival

We went to have a look around the Robin Hood stuff and then set off too search for The Major Oak,Chipmunk was 'Project Leader' a title he took very seriously and his job was too lead me to the Major Oak.This involved him reading all the signs

On our way round Chipmunk read all the signs and information boards ~ this fact stuck in my mind ~ there are over 200 different types of spider here and Sherwood Forest is in this countries top ten places for spiders!Hmm interesting to know!I was certainly careful where I put my feet after reading that!

Just some of the spiders you can find in the forest!

We followed the signs down windy paths

Until we came to a opening

And a sign which said

Woohoo we were nearly there!

Chipmunk got a new lease of life and ran on ahead,as 'project leaders' do :-)

We came to a break in the trees and there it was The Major Oak and some tents

We found a perfect spot to have a crisp picnic and after we had fed,Chipmunk began to climb trees and that's when my phone camera gave up the ghost ~ it had 3055 photos on and 55 videos! So no photo of the Major Oak and time for a *big clear out of photos!*

We walked up to the big field and saw a cricket match being played. We played footy and catch and Chipmunk found a leaf to take home and stick in his summer scrapbook.
It was a lovely trip out :-)

When we got back home Chipmunk was determined to go on his big bike so off we went!

We have a great cul de sac for bike riding, not many cars going up and down and a wide flat space for Chipmunk to pedal his bike round.
He is getting so much steadier these days and I'am so proud of him,he showed his grandparents how well he could ride and they were all pleased too!Way to go Chipmunk!

The Bike!I think I'm going to be spending a fair bit of time out here watching Chipmunk on this bike!

So all in all a good day, always nice to see the family and how nice to be able to chill on a Sunday night instead of going on a mad "get ready for the week ahead frenzy" ~ I always appreciate that!
